Take the Pain out of Buying a Ford F250

 Buying a F series , F250 , F150 trucks

bullet

Work out what one you want!!!

Firstly in your mind do a check list, do you want the 7.3 turbo diesel or the 4.2?. Is         having a extra cab a good idea or will the kids fit better into a crew cab?. Maybe I should look at petrol?. I don't need 4x4 . I need the long tray.

These are just some of the many combinations you will think about.

Fuel consumption its a issue and always will be so the 7.3 V8 diesel and 5.4 petrol can be quite thirsty ,all reports is the 4.2 turbo driven properly can be very fuel efficient.

Then consider that the 4.2 is only in a few models and XL's . You will sacrifice features like airbags (not available on XL and cannot be retro fitted)

If the other half wants automatic you cannot get a 4.2 t.d auto here you must look only at 7.3 XLT or petrol.

Then petrol you cannot have 4x4  the nightmare continues......

Note check out towing capacities  and  child restraints

Think about your budget

Prices vary greatly on these You must consider in most cases people do not buy these things to go to church on Sundays. They have a varied quality of life and as a used vehicle you are buying the balance of life remaining in these vehicles.

Facts are  Most may have seen a dirt road (beach work is uncommon but not to be  discounted)

many have been in 4 wheel drive, most have done some towing and many have had a load in the back.

The point here is that a 2003 with the same kms same model can vary $10000 just from its history.

If it seems to good to be true the chances are it is..

Buying from a dealer

Three main ways to buy 1/ Privately  2/ auction 3/  Dealer

Availability will dictate to you how you will buy but keep your mind open Privately is good you will get a general run down on the vehicle from the previous owner you may see the vehicle in the surroundings in which it came .The only downside here is that the onus is on you to check ownership of the vehicle and to be 100% sure that no money is owing on the vehicle prior to the hand over of money. Check with your state registration authority

Auction, Personally not my favorite  as it becomes a great way for dealers and private operators to unload vehicles that under normal conditions may be difficult to sell. They may have a problem or the cost to put a roadworthy on the vehicle is too high for the vendor. Also consider that the vehicle may be a repossession.

Now to our favorite ,the dealer. Lets be honest here these guys make money that's more out of my pocket?

Not necessarily the case Yes dealers make a living out of selling cars but in the league of f series trucks in these price ranges most dealers will approach a professional and ethical sales approach. Remember when you own one of these vehicles the conversation will very often turn to who did you buy it from. The serious dealer  will want only good things spoken about his work ethics.

The dealer will attend to safety items they must conform with certain requirements by law to conduct themselves and the quality of the product on offer,

The dealer will in most cases be able to be a source of information, He may have alternatives for you to consider and he if he is serious about f series have more than one in stock. He may be also more cooperative if you require a inspection on the vehicle.

After sales

Well after sales you are on you own, the dealer may have a warranty available to you but the private sale there will be nothing and definitely nothing from the Auction.

Check what if any new car warranty is remaining on the vehicle .The time is taken from the date the vehicle was first registered not manufactured.

Overseas and ebay ford motor truck is a great way to see a variety of vehicles for sale but in Australia the market is limited.

Providing it is a Australian Ford delivered vehicle spares etc should be no more awkward than anything else just have some patience with the spare part guys if bits are not in stock. Look at alternative parts and servicing (check new car warranty void here) this may save your money on some items  but try to use factory bits if prices are the same. and try to service the vehicle the best way you can  and You will love your F250 and it will love you too.
