I recently wrote about the Silverado and compared it Ford Like Burger King ( Hungry Jacks in Australia) is to McDonalds.
What I meant here was that rarely did something new, most ideas have first been tried by others and GM followed through in their own unique way.
Now in 2011 the GM Silverado pickup seems to bought with it a great new style, better performance from the Duramax V8 diesel, better payload, wheelbase options and
a braking system that although complicated will be a god send to any vehicle owner wishing to tow the heavy loads.
I am not ready yet to say its better than ford F250 pick up but what I would like to think is that it offers a alternative to the Ford f250 in most facets of this vehicle.
Buying a truck , car or widget does boil down to value for money. Countries like Australia and South Africa in their limited supply of quality big pickups need to feel that when importing and converting to RHD they just don't end up with a very expense waste of space.
This I don't believe would be the case on this 2011 Silverado.
A leading web truck and auto site made these notes about the braking system on the 2011 GM Silverado:
A fascinating feature in this HD Truck is the exhaust brake system. This uses the turbine control of the turbocharger and compression of the engine to generate backpressure, so that the vehicle slows down without application of brakes. This has been integrated into the cruise control feature and will vary the braking according to gradient and vehicle load. The new smart exhaust brake system is designed to enhance brake pad life and eradicate the risk of brakes overheating during extended descents. Indeed, the exhaust brake system will make the vehicle a perfect choice for any
heavy-duty task and thereby making the Chevy Silverado HD a wonderful truck in the days ahead."
